Captains Log: Supplemental

Commanding OfficerL USS Battle Born NCC-69607

Displaying transcript as follows:

It’s always nice to see various faiths and cultures being observed aboard a vessel.

Bajoran members of the crew recently celebrated Peldor, now some members of the crew have observed an old Earth religious festival called Hannukah. Later in the month will be observations of Yule, Saturnalia, Sol Invictus, and Christmas…probably more too but those are the ones I’m personally aware of. Humans do love their winter celebrations…

Takes me back to Asari Nox, Nox’s fourth host. He married a human woman and Christmas was always very important to her…lots of fond memories.

It’s good though. And I know there will be some parts of Starfleet that will say religion has no place in ‘Fleet but…It’s just a facet of the sentient condition. I get that not everyone is attracted to the idea of religion but a whole lot of people out there in this crazy galaxy of ours find great comfort and purpose in their various faiths. And even if they are all false. Even if not one of them is real…They are real enough to make a difference in peoples lives. As long as those religions don’t call for the harm or subjugation of other sentients, as long as they can follow that old Vulcan idiom of Infinite Diversity in Infinite Combinations…does it actually matter? Not long ago, I rewatched an old, old Earth film Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves and a quote from the character Azeem strikes me as relevant to this bit…”Did God paint me? Yes I suppose he did.” the little girl asks why. “Because Allah loves wonderous varieties.”

Not that I suspect anyone will ever read or listen to these logs but…time for me to stop waxing poetic or philosophical or whatever and get back to work.

We’re slated to do a pass of the Federation/Romulan boarder soon. I’d love it if it were a boring pass… Time will tell though.

Captain Sialla Nox…out…for now anyway.
